Accountancy firm lands pension advice role

The financial planning arm of South-West accountants Milsted Langdon has been chosen to share its expert knowledge of pensions with teachers working for local authorities across Wales, in partnership with the National Primary Headteachers’ Association.

Blaenau Gwent and Rhondda Cynon Taff have become the latest local education authorities to come on board with the firm, bringing the total number of LEAs it works with to 19.

Under the arrangement, Milsted Langdon’s experts visit the schools concerned to conduct an information and education seminar regarding key benefits provided to employees by their employers. In particular, the Milsted Langdon team are experts in working with teachers, most of whom have final salary pensions, but may not understand how the scheme works or the impact it has in later life.

Andrew Hennah, financial planning director at Milsted Langdon Financial Planning, said: “The teachers concerned will already have pensions through their employers but often they would need to work for many years to get the full benefit. A number of individuals have recently expressed a wish to retire earlier than normal to get the benefits sooner and with all the uncertainty around the public sector at the moment individuals are worried; my team and I provide the clarity where sometimes the waters appear muddied.

“This is an area where we have been building our expertise for a number of years and we have a very good reputation across the South-West. We are now expanding the service nationwide throughout the country, with the support of one of our key strategic partners the National Primary Headteachers’ association.”

Milsted Langdon plans to continue expanding its services for teachers and local government employees in future. The firm has recently agreed an exclusive deal with Prudential, offering its additional voluntary contribution (AVC) scheme members access to the Milsted Langdon ‘Freedom Pack’, which this gives the member an opportunity for greater flexibility.

Andrew added: “It’s taken a lot of work for us to get to this stage, but we are now one of the leading experts in pensions for teachers and local government employees and I look forward to us continuing to grow this area of our business in future.”
