Milsted Langdon Supports Accountants Of The Future
Milsted Langdon has been lending its support to an initiative at Richard Huish College in Taunton which aims to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the world of business and finance.
Career Academies UK is a nationwide programme to help sixth form students gain more work-related experience to help them in their future career and studies.
The college decided to start up an Academy in business, finance and accountancy, with Milsted Langdon coming on board from the start to offer their own advice and insight to aspiring professionals in their sector.
Career Academy co-ordinator Lesley Jarrett said: “We are always looking for ways to provide our students with practical experience and information, and we thought this was a programme that would work very well alongside our A level delivery.
“We already had a good relationship with Milsted Langdon, through apprenticeships they had run with us in the past, so we were delighted that they were able to join us as part of this scheme.”
Youngsters are selected to take part in the Career Academy by interview – which Milsted Langdon also assist with – and those who are successful get to take part in a variety of activities including guest lectures from Milsted Langdon staff, one-to-one mentoring and a paid six-week internship for one student each summer.
Partner Jonathan Langdon also sits on the Academy’s advisory board, which supports the college in making the most of the scheme with the support of local businesses.
Lesley added: “The mentoring and feedback our students get from Milsted Langdon is extremely useful – many of their employees are only a few years older than the students so they relate to them very well.
“The response from those who took part in the first year has been great – it’s helped them to build their confidence and gain work-related skills, and all of the students have said what a fantastic opportunity it has been for them.”
