Charity Golf Challenge helps local youngsters

Keen golf players from businesses and professional organisations in and around Bristol have been getting into the swing of things by taking part in a charity tournament organised by Milsted Langdon.

The Milsted Langdon Charity Golf Challenge has no lavish prizes on offer - instead participants are playing for pride and the chance to raise money for local charity Fairbridge West, which works with disadvantaged youngsters to help give them the skills, motivation and self-confidence to make changes in their lives.

The 32 teams taking part have been split into eight groups with four teams in each group. The first three matches in the challenge comprise a round-robin competition in each group, with two sets of matches having already taken place, and the last one is due on 24 June at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club.

The winners of each group will then go forward to a knockout competition which will be arranged and played over the summer.

The Milsted Langdon Golf Challenge is set to culminate on 30 September 2010 when all the teams that played in the Challenge will be invited to play in a friendly competition at Bristol Golf Club. The last two matches going out on the day will be the third and fourth play-off and the final itself. This will be followed by an evening meal and prize-giving, hosted by Milsted Langdon.

Partner Keith Sandow said: "As this is a new competition, we've been delighted with the response from local businesses and organisations who have come forward to take part and raise funds for this excellent cause.

"We've had an excellent turnout at the two set days which have already taken place.  These have been great fun and I can tell that there are quite a number of teams in each group that have their eyes on winning their group and going forward to the knockout competition.  However, others (my team for example!) are more realistic and are just keeping our fingers crossed for fine weather on 30 September.

"We're running a similar competition in Yeovil and South Somerset (jointly with Greenslade Taylor Hunt - a firm of Chartered Surveyors and Auctioneers) which is proving to be equally as popular."

Keith continued: "We intend to make this an annual event and anyone that might be interested in entering a team in either the Bristol or Yeovil Challenges in 2011 should call me on 01823 445566."
