Getting Into The Swing Of Fundraising
South West chartered accountancy firm Milsted Langdon has put in an above par performance for charity, after organising two golf tournaments for business people in the area.
The Milsted Langdon Golf Challenge was held in Bristol and Yeovil – the latter in conjunction with local property firm Greenslade Taylor Hunt – with the round-robin matches for the initial 32 teams in each area taking place over three days in the summer.
Both challenges then culminated in a finals day, at Bristol Golf Club and Long Sutton Golf Club respectively. The last two matches on each day were the third and fourth place play-off and the final itself, followed by an evening meal and prize-giving, hosted by Milsted Langdon.
The competition was not about lavish prizes – instead the main motivation was fierce rivalry between local professionals and the pride of winning as well as, in the case of the Bristol event, the chance to raise money for local charity Fairbridge West. A grand total of £2,000 was collected through entry fees and donations for the project, which works with disadvantaged youngsters to give them the skills, motivation and self-confidence to make changes in their lives.
The Bristol contest was won by the NatWest A team of Dave Edwards and Paul Gosland, who beat The Missing Links, Jeff Durrant and Des Ryan of AIB, in the final. The third-place play-off was won by Lloyds Langdon (Paul Jarvis and Nigel Fry) who defeated ADR (Mike Lind and Kerry Gwyther).
In Yeovil, the winners of the overall challenge were Lloyds TSB Farmers (Simon Rowbottom and Dave Stunt) who beat The Grumpy Putters (Rob Parks and Tom Atkins) in the final. The third place play-off was won by Lloyds TSB (Andrew Lucas and Steve Page) who triumphed over Stokes Partnership (Brendan Pang and Steve Taylor).
Partner Gary Salter said: “We were delighted with the response from local businesses and organisations who came forward to take part and we now hope to make this an annual event.
“Both tournaments were great fun for everyone who took part, and in Bristol we had the added bonus of raising a fantastic amount of money for Fairbridge West, which does a great deal of very important work in our area.”
